It is 67 years today since the Red Army liberated Auschwitz in occupied Poland, the most notorious of the Nazi concentration camps. Six million Jewish people are said to have been killed in Hitler’s state-sponsored extermination campaign.
Despite many government's attempts to fight xenophobia, anti-semitism is still a great problem. Twenty per cent of Germans have at least a latent hatred for Jews, a recent report indicates. The same situation is seen in many other countries, including Russia.
