The first spring session of the Azerbaijani parliament has discussed a French bill on the criminalization of a denial of the Armenian Genocide, Trend reports.

Siyavush Nowruzov, a member of the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party, said that there could be no disagreements of the government and opposition on the issue. They need to cooperate.

Ogtay Asadov, Speaker of Parliament, expressed solidarity, stating that support for Turkey is a sincere step. He noted that they need to wait and see what the French Constitutional Council has to make for decision. The official added that such bills deprive France of the moral or legal right to be a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Deputies of the Azerbaijani parliament want to ban France from the OSCE Minsk Group, a structure working on resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Ganir Pashayev, an MP, said that an official letter should be filed to Turkey for recognition of the Khojaly Masscare on the 20th anniversary of the genocide. It would prove Azerbaijani and Turkish brotherly ties. Protests need to be organized in the Istanbul center with a sloga “We are all Khojalies, we are all Karabakhs”.

Josephe Debono Grekh and Pedro Agramunt, co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Azerbaijan made speeches at the parliament.
