Preliminary results of Armenian census published

According to data gained by 12 October 2011, Armenia had 2,871,509 registered citizens, the National Statistical Service said, Armenia Today reports.

Data gained from the census in 2011 says that the total population of Armenia, taking into account people living abroad, is 3,285,767.

The census of 2001 said that the Armenian population totalled 3,458,303, with 3,002,598 living in the republic. That means that 173,000 people left the republic in 10 years. According to the census, about 12% or 414,000 Armenian citizens are currently outside the country.
