Unemployment in Dagestan drops by 4%

Dagestani Leader Magomedsalam Magomedov chaired a session of the Presidential Economic Council of Dagestan and discussed the achievements of 2011 and plans for 2012. The session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mukhtar Mejidov, deputy head of the Presidential Administration Musalan Takhmanov, Minister for the Economy Marat Iliasov and other officials.

Magomedov emphasized that the gross regional product rose by 107.8% in 2011 and agriculture by 106.7%, compared with 2010. He noted reduction of investments, especially in energy, gas and road construction.

1.21 million square meters of housing were built in 2011, one of the highest rates in the country. The average wage increased and totals 11,000 rubles. Unemployment dropped by 4%.

Magomedov reminded about the upcoming presidential polls. He noted the need for cooperation between the authorities and social institutions. He also expressed hope that the local population would vote for Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Concerning goals for 2012, Magomedov noted the need to realize the strategy for the socio-economic development of Dagestan by 2025. Another goal is preparations for the Dagestani Economic Forum.

The Economic Council will need to study 70 investments projects. 300 million rubles were provided for their adjustment and turned out to be left without use.

Abdulkhalik Gindiyev, Chairman of the Economic Council, made a report on 2011. He said that the council held 9 sessions with 19 members attending, over 20 people were invited to discuss 21 issues. They include information technologies, realization of priority investment projects, improvement of public atmosphere, problems of industry and agriculture, the environment, seismic security, administrative reforms, the creation of new workplaces and others.

Gindiyev noted three conferences to discuss Strategy-2025 at the Dagestan State Agricultural Academy, Dagestan State University and Dagestan State University for National Economy, the Second All-Russian Science-Practical Conference on regional economic problems and a seminar on the socio-economic development of municipalities.
