Russia to preserve proportional electoral system

The bills on reformation of parliamentary polls introduced to the Russian parliament by President Dmitry Medvedev today will not ban the proportional electoral system.

225 territorial units will be formed based on norms of candidates per territorial unit for equal representation of regions.

Federal lists will be formed from regional groups belonging to certain territorial units. A common federal list will no longer be in use.
