The legendary Soviet period children's resort "Orlenok" was opened in
1960 and at that time was just a collection of large tents near the
small town of Tuapse in the Black Sea's Krasnodarsky region. The heath
center now consists of seven modern children's resorts, four of which
are open all year round. The center accommodates 18,000 children from
Russia and former Soviet states every year. The official celebrations
of the anniversary will be held in Moscow and in the resort on July
12, ITAR-TASS reports.
