Georgia may switch from being an exporter of electricity to being an importer, Deputy Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Mariam Valishvili said, Business Georgia reports.

The official noted that Georgia will have to start importing electricity, unless major dams would be built in 2015. Minor dams would not be able to fulfill domestic demands for electricity.

Valishvili said that demand for electricity increased by 1 billion KW/h in the last years. Such increase of demand is a result of improving living standards, low prices for power.

Georgia started exports of electricity to neighboring states in 2007.
