Today members of the Russian feminist group Pussy Riot held an action in the Russian Orthodox Church's main cathedral, Ekho Moskvy reports.

Feminists gathered near the altar of the Christ Savior Cathedral in Moscow and started to sing a song devoted to the role the Russian Church plays in the political and social life of the country, the Putin regime and the status of women in Russia.

"Virgin Mary, please become a feminist," the demonstrators chanted when guards tried to detain them.

The feminists also condemned the Russian Church's official position on women's rights and discrimination against gay people in Russia.

The Russian Orthodox Church has officially condemned the bill securing equal rights for men and women that the State Duma is now discussing.

The similar action was held yesterday in front of the Moscow Patriarch's office by gay activists, Russian media report.
