Moscow approves Annan as special UN representative for Syria

Moscow approves the appointment of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan as special representative of the UN and Arab league for the Syrian crisis, spokesman of the Russian Foreign Minister Alexander Lukashevich said, RIA Novosti reports.

The official expressed hope that the authoritative diplomat would help resolve political and humanitarian problems in Syria basing on peaceful means of settlement.

Russia is ready for cooperation with the official.
