14% more Russians visit places of worship
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe number of Russians visiting churches, mosques, synagogues has increased from 57% to 71% in the last 16 years. 7% of people questioned visit the church at least once a month, 30% visit it occasionally, 34% visit it rarely. 11% of Russians in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg visit churches once a month, 5% of young people and villagers do it.
The Russian Public Opinion Research Center (WCIOM) held social polls in 46 regions of Russia.
83% of Christians visit churches. 11% of atheists said they visit churches from time to time. The most popular ritual is setting candles (81% of visitors). The same ritual is popular among those visiting the church regularly (80-82%).
The ritual of setting churches is carried out by Orthodox Christians (86%) and atheists (81%).
