Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan approves of the idea of creating
private schools in Armenia, meeting international standards, the
president’s press-secretary Armen Arzumanyan said, News Armenia
reports, citing the ‘Aravot’ newspaper.

The government’s bill introducing amendments to the law on language
and education was to bring single-language education into schools. The
bill faced many public protests. Now Armenian children will have an
opportunity to study foreign languages in Armenia.

The number of private schools is restricted by law. The Minister of
Science and Education will control the number of schools, that is 15,
eight of them in Yerevan. There cannot be more than 5 schools teaching
in the same language. Studying the Armenian language and subjects is
obligatory in those schools.

There are 1450 schools operating in Armenia, with two Russian schools
where only Russians are studying.
