Russian participants of the Champions League and the leaders of Russian Premier League – FCs CSKA and Zenit – showed their best in the first games of the 33rd round of the Premier League. Petersburg FC Zenit steadily holds the first line in the tournament table after winning 65 points. Moscow FC CSKA has 59 points and holds second place. Now the two teams had to fight – the first one to retain its leadership and the second one to approach the first line.

The game was very bright and exciting, proving that the League’s participants are prepared to show real interesting play, and not what the experts diffidently call ‘spring football’.

The first goal was scored during the first minutes of the game by Zenit’s star Alexander Kerzhakov. However, such a harsh start didn’t daunt the Moscow team and its goalkeeper Sergey Revyakin, and a return goal was scored fairly quickly. The second half was at least as interesting and dynamic as the first one and was also opened by a Kerzhakov goal. But this time Zenit  couldn’t hold on to the lead: Ahmed Musa scored his first ball as a CSKA player. Andrey Arshavin, on loan to Zenit from London's Arsenal, participated in the game, but didn't perform much and was substituted in the second half.

The game ended in a draw, and that was better for Zenit, which is still 6 points ahead of CSKA, while the Moscow team risks being caught up by FC Dynamo, which plays Anzhi Makhachkala on March 5.

Another group A game took place between Lokomotiv Moscow and Kuban Krasnodar. The former won 2:0. In B group Grozny FC Terek won 1:0 in the game with FC Tomsk and FC Volga won in the game with FC Spartak Nalchik, which risks being relegated from the championship.
