UN recommends Azerbaijan to develop eco tourism

Azerbaijan needs to develop eco tourism, Faig Gurbertov, national coordinator of the UN Development Program (UNDP), said, Trend reports.

Development of tourism in Azerbaijan needs training of sightsmen at national parks, preferably from the local population.

Most tourists come from Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Iran, this requires border tourism development and infrastructure. Their main places of visit are national parks. The number of visitors to mark holidays increases as well, especially Iranians coming for Nowruz.

Most income comes from payments for hotel and food. Some pay for sight-seeing and rent cars, the coordinator adds.
