Israel ceases contacts with UN Human Rights Council

Israel has ceased contacts with the UN Human Rights Council and its chief
commissioner Navi Pillay, after it decided to create a special commission
aimed at investigating Jewish settlements in the West Bank, RIA-Novosti
reports referring to the Haaretz newspaper.
"We will not permit members of the human rights council to visit Israel and
our ambassador has been instructed not to even answer phone calls," Haaretz
quoted a senior Israeli official as saying.
On Thursday the UN Human Rights Council announced that it would
"investigate the implications of the Israeli settlements on the civil,
political, economic, social and cultural rights of the Palestinian people
throughout Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem."
