Customs Union to cancel milk drinks

Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, the states forming the Customs Union, are discussing replacing the term "milk drinks" with "restored milk", Russian Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Vladimir Salamatov said at the Russian Retail Trade Forum, RIA Novosti reports.


Russia passed technical regulations for milk and milk products in late 2009. The document calls milk produced from milk powder a "milk drink". many manufacturers used the term to increase prices.


Salamatov said that all technical regulations of the Customs Union will come into force on July 1, 2013. Decisions on the term will be made in May 2012.
