Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Russian Jews on Passover, RIA Novosti reports.

The Passover is an 8-day holiday of spring and liberty. Jews in Russia start marking Passover at dawn on April 6. Passover is related to one of the main events in history, the Exodus from Egypt and the release from 400 years of slavery and the birth of the Jewish nation.

Medvedev believes that successful development of Russia is directly connected with the protection of rights and freedom of citizens, the preservation of cultural and religious diversity and combating xenophobia. The president added that the Jewish community cooperates with the government in completing these goals and contributes to expanding inter-religious dialogue and strengthening consent.
