Azerbaijan to commemorate occupation of Shusha
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaAzerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the occupation of Shushua by Armenia, Trend reports.
The document states that Shusha is a unique cultural center of Azerbaijan, peculiar for its beautiful monuments of national architecture and Medieval style. It used to be the center of the Karabakh Khanate. Its notable people are Gasym beku Zakir, Khurshuban Natavan, Mir Mokhsunu Navvabu, Najaf beku Vezirov, Abduraggim beku Akhverdiyev, Yusuf Vezir Chemenzeminli, Firidun beku Kocharli, and Ahmed beku Agaoglu.
National Leader Heydar Aliyev called the historic part of city a historic and architectural reserve in 1977. A museum of culture and the art of Uzeir, bek Gajibeyli, Khurshudban Natavan and Bul-Bul have been constructed in the city. A mausoleum was built for poet Molla Panakh Vagif.
