Annan reports on Syrian government’s conditions

Kofi Annan, special envoy of the UN and Arab League (LAS), told the UN Security Council on Tuesday, that Syria demands new conditions that were not included in the plan, ITAR-TASS reports.

Damascus announced 6 demands on April 8. It wants opposition to give guarantees of no violence in written form, disarmament, guarantees of regional states that they would not finance or arm opposition.

Annan told the UN Security Council that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem. Lavrov informed Annan that the Syrian government does not need guarantees in written form.

The special envoy says that violence should stop at 6.00 am on April 12.
