Tension rises in Astrakhan

Tension is increasing in the Russian city of Astrakhan as the local authorities don't recognize opposition candidate Oleg Shein's alleged victory in the recent elections for Astrakhan's mayor, Ekho Moskvy reports.

Oleg Shein went on hunger strike 4 weeks ago and is still abstaining from food, although his health condition is extremely dangerous.

Local residents together with opposition activists such as Alexey Navalny, Ilya Yashin and others are going to hold a major demonstration of protest tonight.
