South Ossetia develops gardening and grape-growing

South Ossetia will soon start planting apple trees, the head of the plant-growing section of the South Ossetian Agricultural Ministry Vitaly Bujiyev said, Res reports.

Some 170,000 plants have been delivered. They will produce a first harvest in 3 years. Each tree will provide about 10 kg of fruit. The harvest will increase to 40 kg per tree in 5 years.

South Ossetians received 110,000 apple plants as a loan for 5 years in 2011.

Some 100,000 hazelnut plants were delivered this year.

Some 100,000 grape saplings will be planted in 2-3 days. Each will give up to 10 kg of grapes in 3 years and 30 kg in 5-6 years.

40,000 grape plants were planted last year.
