Levon Ter-Petrosyan: Armenian authorities are organizing a genocide of the people, pushing people to emigrate
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe election campaign on electing the deputies of the Armenian Parliament is closer to its climax. Two weeks before the elections debates are getting hotter and more intense. Candidates have spared no effort travelling around the country trying to attract the large number of undecided voters.
The leader of the opposition Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, at a meeting in Baird made a comparison between those who carried out the "genocide of Armenians in 1915," and those today who encourage migration.
"Enough with electing thieves, bandits, scoundrels, and traitors of the nation. Who is the man who pushes people to migrate, what is the difference between this migration and deportation, organized by the Ottoman Empire? What is the difference between them?" Ter-Petrosyan asks.
In the Tavush region of Armenia, representatives of the opposition bloc called on those present at the May 6 election to cast their votes in favor of the proportional list of the ANC and the candidate from constituency № 41 in the majority system, Spartak Harutyunyan.
"Who has intimidated us? A group of thieves and bandits. Who is Robert Kocharyan? Robert Kocharyan is richer than all our republic put together. Do you know that? Serzh Sargsyan is richer than our republic. Do you know? Moscow newspapers have written about this. They have not responded, they are not suing the Moscow newspapers. When in Armenia some journalist writes anything about them, they take it to the court. If you are a man, then sue in Moscow too ! That's what their masculinity is like," Levon Ter-Petrosian said during the meeting in Baird.
And in the town of Ijevan, Ter-Petrosian said that the government has no right to talk about the international recognition of the "Armenian genocide", as they are carrying out genocide in their own country. "I would advise everyone to vote for the Republican Party, if there exists at least one person who will say that during these five years his life has changed for the better," Levon Ter-Petrosyan said in Ijevan and went on: "Serzh Sargsyan and the Republican Party have no single vote in this country. If they had, they would have no need to give bribes, to help the police to intimidate people; if they had votes they would not force the headteachers of all schools to become members of the Republican Party. "
Levon Ter-Petrosyan says the election is the last chance to change something, calling on people to vote for the ANC.
Former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan advises residents of the Tavush region not to trust the motto of the ruling party: "They say: believe in order to change. People, do not do it: you will believe and change, but change for the worse."
"Understand this, explain this to your neighbors, tell them that there is a chance on May 6, then there are the February presidential elections ... On this wave, power has changed. No doubt, everything will end tragically," Bagratyan says.
Commenting for VK on the factor of Robert Kocharyan and his role in the political system of Armenia, the coordinator of the working group Center for the Study of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Volga-Ural Institute of Oriental Studies, Alexander Skakov, stressed that "as a factor of one of the former presidents of Armenia, he, of course, has influence, but I cannot say he is a very popular politician. "
"I think he's trying to make an impact from out of the shadows. He has the environment, there are people on whom he relies, including former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian. But how real is this factor in politics? Aren't we mistaking the imaginary for the real? Possibly we exaggerate its importance, given the fact that he is a former President. But perhaps this importance is much slighter than we think," Alexander Skakov adds.
