Civil activists of North Ossetia have sent an appeal to the Russian
government and the State Duma with a request to cancel the auction for the sale
of the House of Officers in the historic center of Vladikavkaz, ITAR-TASS
reports.

The appeal states that the inhabitants of Vladikavkaz learned from the
media about the sale of the building, despite the fact that, during
negotiations with the Defense Ministry, the latter has repeatedly promised
to consider handing the building over to the municipal authorities and to
inform the republic's authorities. However, contrary to the agreements, the
building was put on sale. The auction is scheduled for April 28.

Representatives of public organizations of North Ossetia have urged the
federal government to intervene and stop the sale of the building, which is
considered an object of social and cultural importance. This is not the
first attempt of the Ministry of Defense to put the building up for auction.
