Medvedev attends last session of Russian State Council as president
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Kremlin is hosting an expanded session of the State Council, chaired by President Dmitry Medvedev. It will be Medvedev’s final session at the council as president, so it will most likely highlight his achievements and prospects for the future, RIA Novosti reports.
The president is to evaluate activities of the government in the last 4 years and set plans for the future. Vice Premier Igor Shuvalov said at the conference on business initiatives that certain ratings of developments since 2008 will be made.
Medvedev said that plans for the future will be presented within the framework of procedures for appointment of the new prime minister. The plans will be made by the new government and will be presented to the parliament.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin held an expanded session of the State Council when leaving office in 2008 after 8 years of presidency. The session considered the concept for development of Russia until 2020.
The State Council was formed on September 1, 2000. It consists of top authorities of Russian regions. The president is allowed to invite others to the session.
The president founded the Presidium of the State Council in 2000 to prepare issues for discussion. The main topics are construction, economic and social reforms and public problems.
