Iran has released two detained Russians, but their health is “unsatisfactory,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday, RIA Novosti reports.
Employees of the Kazakh-Iranian gold-mining joint venture ZarKuh, including two Russians, were held in Iran on April 5.
“The Russians are currently in a hotel in Tehran. Their physical condition is unsatisfactory,” the Russian ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said the Russians were given the required medicines and will be examined by a Russian Embassy doctor “at the earliest opportunity.”
“No specific charges were filed against the detainees, and the reasons behind their April 5 apprehension are yet to be clarified,” the statement reads. “We expect the Iranian authorities to give thorough explanations about this incident.”
