Journalist detained in Dagestan
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe police of Dagestan have detained a journalist suspected of being a militant and racketeering businessmen, RIA Novosti reports.
Kamil Magomedov of Svobodnaya Respublika paper was reportedly detained on March 17. He was believed to be the founder of a militant group in early February. G.N. Gajiyev, A.A. Asadulayev and I.S. Shillayev were believed to be part of the group.
The militants purchased a pistol, made two pistols out of gas pistols, a Borz submachine gun, an RGD grenade and an improvised grenade.
The police found weapons, ammo, explosives, uniforms, Wahhabi literature at Magomedov’s apartment in Makhachkala and garage.
Magomedov may get up to 7 years of prison. He has been in detention since March 20. He was sued on March 27. A criminal case for racketeering was initiated on April 12 and may get up to 7 years of prison for that.
Members of the group of Ilias Balakhansky, where Magomedov was a member as well, said that they racketeered businessmen to gain finances. They obtained 5-20 million rubles.
