American billionaire Donald Trump has been to Georgia on a two-day visit. It has been a while since the country experienced similar excitement in connection with a visit of a foreign guest. After all, Trump is not just a billionaire; he is a living embodiment of the "American Dream", a symbolic figure, a symbol of the American way of life.
Apparently, Saakashvili genuinely loves the extravagant American, and his interest in the "King of Real Estate" goes far beyond his interest in new investments. The visit of Donald Trump to Georgia is another opportunity for the Georgian leader to reaffirm his commitment to the values that he uses with varied success as the underlying principles of the new Georgia
Trump is interested in Saakashvili not only in terms of lobbying business projects. After all, Georgia is a small country with a rather narrow real estate market, and it has been in a state of deep crisis since the war and financial collapse of 2008. Nevertheless, the famous American for some reason has chosen this country in the former Soviet Union to build his first building.
Mikheil Saakashvili and Donald Trump agreed on the construction of the Trump Tower in Batumi last year, during the visit of the Georgian president to the United States. Trump and Saakashvili met in the famous skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. The atmosphere of that meeting was imbued with interpersonal sympathy. Saakashvili said that Trump was his "role model". The American billionaire said in turn that he would dream of such a leader as Saakashvili for his country. During the meeting they agreed on the construction of the Trump Tower in Batumi, which has been turned into the showcase of Georgian reforms by the efforts of the president.
The 47-storey skyscraper on the Batumi waterfront will not be built by the Trump Corporation but by its local partner – the Silk Road Group, owned by businessman George Ramishvili. However, Trump allowed the Georgian company to use his name - a famous and expensive brand. The billionaire personally attended the opening of the project in the capital of Adjara and once again praised Mikhail Saakashvili, calling him a "great leader": "Georgia has an extraordinary president, whose achievements are discussed by the whole world. Thanks to his efforts Georgia has become a fantastic place and one really wants to come here again and again," Trump said. All the world is talking about Georgia, about the magical transformation of this country. Mr. President, I want to congratulate you, you are a great man."
In general American billionaires are not keen on such grand statements. Observers are already discussing the fact that not the money, but the phenomenon of Saakashvili's Georgia touched Trump so much, who is not alien to politics and who ran for the US presidency once.
As for the president of Georgia, it would be a mistake to lose the opportunity to promote the "brand" of his reforms a few months before the crucial parliamentary elections. "What is the phenomenon of Georgia, if this small country, such geopolitically complex region, is constructing a miracle, a miracle of the XXI century, and if people like Donald Trump, whose name is the most famous in the construction business, come here? The International Finance Corporation recently conducted a survey according to which 75% Georgian businessmen are happy with the investment climate. Only 0.1% were associated with corruption. In Georgia there are laws that are being followed by everyone and Georgia has a name which is becoming a bright star in the region in terms of development. We will turn Batumi to "Singapore on the Black Sea"!"- Saakashvili said during the presentation of the project while the "King of the Real Estate" benevolently smiled and nodded in agreement.
