Clinton to replace Obama at APEC summit in Vladivostok

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will attend the APEC summit in Vladivostok on September 2-9, US Deputy Advisor for National Security Ben Rods said, RIA Novosti reports.

A White House spokesman said that US President Barack Obama cannot attend the summit due to pre-election meetings of the Democratic Party on September 3-9. Obama faces re-election on November 6.

The US official noted that the decision has nothing to do with replacement of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at the Camp David summit of the G8.
