Russian Defense Ministry again fails to agree on delivery terms for new nuclear submarines

The Defense Ministry of Russia and the United Shipbuilding Corporation
again failed to agree on the terms of the final contract for the
delivery of the new Borey (Project 955) strategic nuclear submarines
on Friday, despite the intervention of President Vladimir Putin,
RIA-Novosti reports.

Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said his ministry and the submarine
manufacturer would return to talks to agree on the price in 2015.

“We agreed that we will return to price talks in 2015. Should the
industry be able to demonstrate it has incurred any substantial costs,
we may accept them, that is, recalculate them,” RIA-Novosti quotes Serdyukov telling journalists after the meeting with Putin.

The Russian Navy expects to receive at least 10 new Borey strategic
nuclear submarines by 2020. The submarines will be armed with Bulava
ballistic missiles and are expected to constitute the core of Russia's
strategic ballistic missile submarine force after 2018.
