Head of North Caucasus district attacked

Unidentified assailants have shot at Hassan Sijajev, head of the Baksansky District of Kabardino-Balkaria, in the Krem-Konstantinovskoye Village at about 8.20 am today, RIA Novosti reports.

The official was hospitalized with a gunshot.

Unidentified assailants attacked a police officer and a woman on the night of May 17-18 in the Baksansky District. A 30-year old local from Baksan was attacked about the same time.

Three militants were killed in the district in mid-March. The police found a submachine gun, equipment, improvised bombs equivalent to 8 kg of TNT.

55 militants were caught and 34 killed, including a militant leader and an attacker of the Baksan Dam of July 2010, in Kabardino-Balkaria this year. Two security guards were killed and three out of four generators damaged at the dam in 2010.
