Khloponin proposes appointment of prime minister in Stavropol Territory
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaRussian Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District Alexander Khloponin proposes appointment of a prime minister in Stavropol Territory, RIA Novosti reports.
The governor is the highest-ranking administrator in the region. Appointment of a prime minister requires amendments to the regional charter, so that the prime minister would head the government instead of the governor.
The idea will most likely be considered at the local parliament on Thursday.
Khloponin held a meeting with the regional government attended by Russian Deputy Minister for Regional Policy Sergey Vereshagin.
Constantine Ilyasov was the Prime Minister of the region, appointed in October 1997, during the governing of Alexander Chernogorov. But such model may cause a conflict between the governor and the prime minister.
