Iran plans to introduce harsher punishments for people selling ties, Gazeta.ru reports.

Wearing ties was banned in Iran after the Islamic Revolution in 1979. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad neglected some bans and ties were available in many shops of major cities.

Wearing ties is not a violation, although it is considered inappropriate for state officials. Selling ties may be punished with closing of a shop.
