Azerbaijan successfully completed presidency in UN Security Council - minister

Azerbaijan adequately coped with the tasks set before it, and has successfully completed the presidency in the UN Security Council, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told reporters on Saturday, Trend informs.

"Presidency of Azerbaijan in the UN Security Council was very successful. Azerbaijani diplomacy's efforts during the presidency were aimed at enhancing Azerbaijan's national interests at global level," he said.

From the earliest days of activities in the Council Azerbaijan has performed its duties with all diligence, Abdullayev said.

"The president of Azerbaijan, speaking on May 4 at the UN Security Council, called for greater international cooperation in combating terrorism, following which the relevant declaration was adopted," Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

He said that during the presidency of Azerbaijan three resolutions were adopted - two on the situation in Sudan, one - on a military coup in Guinea-Bissau, and seven statements to the press were made.
