Lavrov: Russia sees no alternative to Annan's plan

The situation in Syria is teetering on the brink of fully-fledged civil
war, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday,
RIA-Novosti reports.

"It looks like Syria is on the brink of civil war," RIA-Novosti
quotes Lavrov's words.

The Foreign Minister of Russia also said that despite the critical
situation Russia sees no alternative to Annan's plan of a peaceful
resolution of the crisis.

At least 9,000 people have been killed in clashes between the
government and opposition forces in Syria since the start of the
uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's regime last year, according
to UN estimates.
