Tehran expects progress at talks with mediators in Moscow

Tehran expects progress at negotiations with six mediators (UK, China, France, Russia, USA and Germany) in Moscow, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in Tehran at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Trend reports.

Negotiations of Iran and the six mediators were held in Baghdad on May 23-24 and Istanbul in mid-April. The new round of talks was set for June 18-19 in Moscow.

The six mediators and the IAEA have been trying to persuade Iran to stop uranium enrichment since 2003, saying that the process threatens the nuclear non-proliferation regime. Negotiations were hindered in 2009 when the IAEA criticized Iran for building the second uranium-enrichment facility and urged Tehran to confirm that no other unannounced nuclear facilities had been under construction.

Salehi added that Tehran and Moscow have common grounds on the Syrian crisis.
