Azerbaijan and PACE discuss measures to improve judicial system

The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Pedro Agramunt and Joseph Debono Grech, met with Azerbaijani Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov, the press service of the Ministry told Trend on Wednesday.

The modernization of the judicial system and measures continuously being carried out to improve the judicial system were discussed during the meeting. Mammadov noted that he appreciates the procedural model of electing judges of the European Union.

Speaking about the steps taken to increase the efficiency of the justice system, Fikret Mammadov informed the PACE representatives about the successful and wide application of the precedent of the European Court of Human Rights.

The PACE co-rapporteurs noted that their mission is closely connected with the legal and judicial environment. Work undertaken in this area shows that protection of human rights in Azerbaijan will be strengthened in the future, rapporteurs said.
