Cooperation Council of Turkic States proposes introducing unified Turkic alphabet
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Cooperation Council of Turkic States (CCTS) proposes creating a
single script for all Turkic-speaking countries, the Secretary
General of CCTS Khalil Akynzhy said, APA reports, quoting Kazakh media.
"At present, the Turkic Academy in Kazakhstan at the initiative CCTS
is considering creating a single alphabet for the Turkic-speaking
countries. We're not talking about replacing some other language, no
one is going to impose anything on anyone. The main objective of this
idea is to create a unified Turkic alphabet so that we can understand
each other better. Language based on the common roots can serve for
interethnic communication," Akynzhy said.
According Akynzhy, the Academy is now studying the issue and seeking
funds, since the transition to a single alphabet will require large
resources.
The Cooperation Council of Turkic states was established in 2009 and
currently includes four states: Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and
Kyrgyzstan. The next meeting will be held this August in Bishkek.
