Saakyan becomes secretary of Republican Party at Armenian parliament

Ovannes Saakyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, will be the party’s secretary at the parliament, Vice Speaker of Parliament and press secretary of the party Eduard Sharmazanov said, News Armenia reports.

Saakyan was approved by the Central Electoral Commission on Monday. He will replace Minister for Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan as the secretary. Saakyan was part of the previous parliament. He was under Beglaryan in the proportional list of the Republican Party.

The Armenian parliament has 131 seats. The parliamentary polls on May 6 resulted in the Republican Party winning 69 seats of parliament, Prosperous Armenia 37, Armenian National Congress 7, Orinats Yerkir 6, Dashnaktsutyun 5 and Heritage 5.
