Turkmen president orders inspection of East-West Gas Pipeline financing

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has ordered a vice premier to inspect financing of the East-West Gas Pipeline, Trend reports.

Turkmengaz is the general contractor of the project. The pipeline is built to be connected with the western section in the east, on the Caspian border, to enter the European market through the Caspian Sea and Russia.

The pipeline will have a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of gas annually. It is planned to be launched in mid-2015. The pipeline costs about $2 billion. Foreign companies are involved in construction.

The pipeline is constructed from the Shatlyk gas compression station in the Mariysk Region towards the Belek station in the Balkan Region. The gas pipeline will have a diameter of 1420 mm and a length of 766 km.
