Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaRussia calls on Syria to carry out Annan's resolution plan more actively, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced today at a meeting with
his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem at the Saint Petersburg economic forum.
During the meeting Lavrov urged Syria to follow the resolution plan
proposed by UN and Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan more actively.
Lavrov also dismissed information that Russia is allegedly sending warships to Syria.
A Russian warship, which some media reports claimed was carrying arms
destined for Syria, arrived at the Russian Black Sea port of
Novorossiysk on Friday, RIA-Novosti reports.
The Nikolai Filchenkov, an amphibious ship, was en route from the Crimean
port of Sevastopol, Black Sea Fleet spokesman Vyacheslav Trukhachev told
RIA Novosti.
Western media reports last week asserted taht the Nikolai Filchenkov and another
amphibious ship, the Caesar Kunikov, were heading to Syria, where Russia
has its only naval base outside the former Soviet Union.
The Russian military denied the reports.
