Victory Relay rally organized in Sochi
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Glory memorial In Sochi will on Wednesday be the site for an organized rally and Victory Relay program devoted to the 65th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, the press service of the city administration said.
"On the morning of March 16, batons will be delivered to the Lazarevsky district from Novorossisk,” the press service said, Uyga.ru reports. “A rally and wreath-laying ceremony scheduled for Heroes Hill in Lazarevsky settlement at 11:00." Representatives of the military services and veterans of the Great Patriotic War will take part in the events.
The Victory Relay has been organized under decision of the Council of Border Troops Commanders of CIS member states in February-May 2010 to commemorate the heroic exploits of frontier guards, whose bravery is part of World War II legend.
The relay’s symbols are a flag and stylized artillery shell casing. They were received by the Russian FSB’s Black Sea-Azov Sea border department of the coastguard from Ukrainian colleagues on March 12.
The event will finish on the eve of Border Guards Day in Moscow on May 28, 2010, with a ceremony at Poklonnaya Hill.
