Total confirms discovery of new gas field in Azerbaijan

Total (France) has confirmed discovery of a large gas field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, 100 km south-east of Baku, ITAR-TASS reports.

The French company published its first data in September 2011. Total believes that there are 150-300 billion cubic meters of gas in the Apsheron area. First drilling should start in 2013.

Specialists say that the new discovery strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as one of the energy leaders of the Caspian Region.
