"Friends of Syria" demand Assad's resignation

Members of the so-called "Friends of Syria" group in Paris called for
increased pressure on Syria and demanded the resignation of President
Bashar al-Assad, RIA Novosti reports, referring to Agence France
Presse.

The "Friends of Syria" called on the UN Security Council to urgently
adopt a new resolution on coercing Syria in accordance with Chapter
VII of the UN Charter and take measures to ensure the implementation
of this resolution. Chapter VII of the UN Charter, entitled "Action
with respect to threats to peace, breaches of the peace and acts of
aggression" provides for application of sanctions by the UN Security
Council.

The meeting also decided to seriously strengthen assistance to the
Syrian opposition, in particular by providing means of communication.
They also agreed to hold the next meeting of the group in Morocco, and
then in Italy.
