Kazakhstan focuses on New Silk Road

The Committee for Customs Control of the Kazakh Finances Ministry has developed a concept for transport and logistics centers, KAZINFORM reports.


Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasized on completion of the Western Europe - Western China Road in January 2012. The project is also known as the New Silk Road to connect Europe and Asia. It would become a transit center in Middle Asia, deputy head of the committee Seytgali Mulkin said.


It will have a capacity of at least 50 million tons in 2020.


Nazarbayev said at the 25th session of the Council of Foreign Investors at the President that the transport hub would develop with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Horgos on the border of China, Aktau Port and a logistical center in Aktobe, Western Europe - Western China corridor, A-class logistical centers in Alma-Ata, Aktau, Aktobe and Horgos - Eastern Gate.


The Union of Kazakh Road Freighters said that freighting increased from 15,000 to 100,000 vehicles annually with launch of the Western Europe - Western China corridor.


The issue is also topical for TRACECA., related to the Zhezkazgan - Beyney railway corridor of 1200 km.
The committee considered formation of a logistical system in Eastern Kazakhstan. The Russian region from Ural to Baikal is involved. The Omsk - Maykapshagay road with roads to Barnaul and Novorossiysk is one of the most attractive projects.
