Annan accuses Damascus of violating agreements about non-use of heavy weapons

 

The special envoy of the UN and the League of Arab States, Kofi Annan, hasaccused the government of Syria of violating the peace plan and the
use of heavy weapons in the Syrian village of Taramseh,"Interfax" reports.
"I am shocked and appalled by the reports coming from the village of Taramsehabout the intense fighting, considerable losses and confirmed
use of heavy weapons such as artillery, tanks and helicopters,"
Kofi Annan said in a statement issued on Friday.

"It is a violation of the obligations of the government to stop using
heavy weapons in populated areas," the special envoy said.
