Iran ready to host Syrian opposition and government meeting
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaIranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that Iran is ready to host Syrian opposition groups, alongside Syrian Government representatives, to take part in intra-Syrian peace negotiations, Trend reported.
Salehi said that Iran supports Kofi Annan's 6-article proposal to resolve the Syrian crisis.
"We consider Annan's attempts as positive and a neutral position. Iran can accelerate its efforts to simplify and ease the resolution of the Syrian crisis.
Earlier on Friday, Annan accused the Syrian government of violating his plan to end the bloodshed in the country by using heavy weaponry on civilian areas.
"This is in violation of the government's undertaking to cease the use of heavy weapons in population centres and its commitment to the six-point plan ... I condemn these atrocities in the strongest possible terms," Annan said in Geneva.
