Iran has 11,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaIran has increased the number of centrifuges enriching uranium from 10,000 to 11,000, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said at a meeting with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, RIA Novosti reports.
The IAEA reported about 10,000 centrifuges enriching uranium to 20% on May 25. 9,333 of them were in Natanz and 696 at Fordu near Kum.
Experts say that 20%-enriched uranium may be turned into 90%-enriched for nuclear weapons.
The US, Israel and a set of other Western states accuse Iran of developing nuclear arms on the background of peaceful atom. Tehran denies all accusations and insists that the nuclear program is to fulfill demands for electricity. Four resolutions of the UNSC have been passed to stop the Iranian nuclear program. Iran needs to guarantee the peaceful nature of its nuclear programs to have the resolutions lifted.
