UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday demanded the Syrian
authorities to declare the renunciation of the use of chemical
weapons, regardless of the situation in the country or abroad, Reuters reported.

"I demand ... that the Syrian authorities categorically state that in
any circumstances they will refrain from the use of chemical weapons
or other weapons of mass destruction" - Ban Ki-moon said at a press
conference in London, which was held with participation of Minister of
Foreign Affairs of the UK, William Hague.

On Monday, a representative of the Syrian Foreign Minister, Jihad
Maqdisi said that Syria might use chemical weapons in case of foreign
military intervention. This statement caused a wide resonance in the
countries of the world community and serious concerns in Israel.
