Shootout in Alma-Ata

A shootout is taking place near the Axelkent residential complex on the crossing of the Streets of Rayumbek and Yassaui in Alma-Ata, RIA Novosti reports.

Shooting and explosions started a few hours ago, a local resident said. There were over 20 blasts. Locals believe that the police were having a special operation against attackers of a police patrol on Saturday.

The patrol was attacked in the morning of July 28. A police officer was killed and one was gravely injured. Three young people driving a Hyundai were suspected of the attack.
