Slander becomes criminalized in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the bill on slander, RIA Novosti reports.

Slander used to be an administrative violation. It has now become criminalized. Putin said on July 19 that criminalization may be lifted sometime in the future.

Dmitry Medvedev lifted it in December 2011.
