Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Barack Obama have discussed coordination of efforts to end the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, RIA Novosti reports.

The Syrian military have been clearing Aleppo of militants for the last three days. Attempts to pass the US version of the resolution on Syria at the UN Security Council failed.

The US State Department announced an increase of aid to the Syrian opposition on Monday.

The conflict in Syria has been ongoing since March 2011. The UN says that over 16,000 people have died. The Syrian authorities say that they face a well-armed opposition supported by foreign states. Russia and China fear that the fall of Assad would escalate the conflict.
